How BEATS Began…
In 2009 my first son, Rory was born. While I loved being a new mom, I did not love the new body that I had, and the 30 extra pounds that came with it. So, to get the weight off I began training for half marathons and lifting heavy weights. While it initially got the weight off, I had constant knee and back pain, and an injured IT band. I knew there had to be a better way. So, I began my fitness research and attended every class and did every video I could to see what I liked, and most importantly what worked. In 2015, I was asked to become a fitness instructor at the J.Smith Young YMCA in Lexington, NC. This was my opportunity to put all of my work and research into a class. I wanted to put everything I loved about fitness and dance into this one hour. I wanted it to be results based but also fun- I wanted that hour to fly by but also feel like you worked your body to your max level. I wanted to create a workout specifically designed for a woman's body. I understood that working the body in a 360 degree way while keeping your heart rate up for 45- 60 minutes brings FIRE results. I also wanted to create a welcoming environment where the girls felt comfortable. It is so important to be kind. The class took off, and within two years I began doing small private trainings, and in December of 2018, I opened my boutique fitness studio BEATS in Lexington, NC. I have poured my heart and soul into creating and developing the BEATS class. On the mat we get every nook and cranny of the body, we keep your heart rate up by adding ankle weights. Both on the mat and with the arm series we engage the small accessory muscles which help give your arms strength without bulk. We add extra cardio through an easy to follow dance routine, and we end the class on the barre to get that final burn and shake. I change the routine every 3 weeks, which gives you enough time to learn the intricacy of the work, while not letting your body get too comfortable by doing the same routine. BEATS is not just a business to me- it is my passion. Not just because of what it does for the body, but how fitness can transform your life. When you feel better, you do better in every aspect of life- As a wife, mom, friend, daughter- When girls walk into my studio it is an absolute honor to me, because I know that she is juggling 10,000 things just to be there. I understand there are many other places she could have chosen to be. I am so very grateful to have the opportunity to coach and lead you through this absolutely unique BEATS workout. I can't wait to see you! -M
